The Story

From the AuthorFor most people, eating is an enjoyable experience. The family dinner table is usually a scene of conviviality, friendship, and at times humor, where food and fellowship provide the setting to reconnect with others. And that, along with nourishment, should be its proper role in our lives. But when food becomes an obsession, as it had in my case, conviviality, friendship and humor have no part in the eating experience. There is only misery, and no matter how desperate this problem may appear on the surface, there is always a solution.Finding the solution to my eating obsession was not so easy. As diets and exercise programs took my weight on a rollercoaster ride, it became obvious that my solution resided not within the amount of calories I consumed, but within my soul and why I willingly consumed so much food. Confronting my need to change brought on a fear of what must first be done to pinpoint the source of the problem, followed by the unknown risk of the new path and challenges that lie ahead. Now I was ready to look within. For a longlasting solution, you must first develop a foundation to build upon a faith in your Higher Power and most particularly a trust within that provides direction in your life. It is then that peace and joy will finally return and allow you to live a balanced and healthy life.Product DescriptionSo often, women struggle to control the urges that drive them to excessive weight and Barbara McCalmon faced this battle with more than just diet and exercise as she resolved her inner conflicts with spiritual guidance and support.About the AuthorBarbara McCalmon was inspired to write Your Weight or Your Life? from her lifelong struggle with an eating disorder and severe weight problems that began in her preteen years. Even at her thinnest, she was not free from the power that food held over her. The authors time spent in the Rader Institute for Eating Disorders and her ensuing road to recovery gave her the determination to win over the disease that controlled her life for so long.Inspired by this philosophy, McCalmon founded and operated two immensely successful day spas in the Denver area which she has recently decided to sell allowing her to focus her attention on public speaking and lecturing to those who still suffer from the obsessive power that food has over their lives.A Colorado native herself, Barbara and her husband Kevin, along with their dog Ollie, have built their lives in this beautiful state. Both thrive in the active lifestyle that Colorado provides. This includes hiking, biking and skiing in the surrounding area.Barbara is dedicated to her family and practicing the principals she has learned from the Mile High Church. She is presently at work completing her first novel, BlueEyed Boy.
